16 Year Old Program

Specializing in training teen drivers, Right Way Driving School’s primary focus is to provide our students with the fundamental, cognitive and physical skills they need to operate a vehicle in a responsible and safe manner.

New Jersey recognized the dangers associated with automobiles and created “The Early Bird” also known as the “Graduated Driver’s License (GDL)” program. This program is the required course for all 16-year-olds in New Jersey. NJ Law requires a State Certified & Licensed driving school to obtain the “GDL” Permit. A parent/guardian cannot obtain the permit at the NJMVC; the pleasure is all ours.

Turning 16 is one of the most exciting & monumental occurrences in a teenager’s life. They are about to embark on a path that leads to freedom, mobility, and individuality. It may even teach them something about responsibility. Your child is eligible to obtain a driver’s permit and hit the open road! Of course, while they’re really excited about this huge milestone, you may be a little more anxious about the situation, most parents are usually not quite as excited, and for good reason! There’s a lot to think about when it comes to a teen driving and staying safe on the roads. It is most important for parents to model the way and exhibit safe driving behaviors while behind the wheel by reinforcing the habits the new driver will ultimately adopt. At the end of the day, it’s not lawmakers, police officers, lawyers or insurance agents who are going to keep your teen driver safe! We are, as a community!

At Right Way Driving School we understand the significance of choosing where to send your child for their driving education. Placing your child’s safety in someone else’s care should not be taken lightly. Over the years we hear the same two questions: “How much do you charge?” and “How soon can we start?” While these are relevant questions, they should NOT be the only two that are asked before committing to a program.

At the conclusion of our 6 hour program, we provide a validated permit and a certificate of completion for your insurance company. At this point the student will be legal to drive with a licensed driver other than a licensed instructor. We strongly encourage you to review the manual and become familiar with the driving requirements and testing information. Also, please understand the responsibility of a parent or guardian to drive with your child after the permit has been obtained; continued parental involvement in driver education is crucial. Our staff at Right Way recommends upon graduation that parents drive a minimum of 100 hours with their children. These hours should not be used just to determine the teen’s readiness to pass the driver’s test, but they should be used to assess the techniques, driving habits and regularity of safe practices. The parents should also be observant of the teens emotional and confidence readiness to start driving without the guidance of an adult in the vehicle. It is recommended that parents practice with their child soon after the professional training lessons.

The ‘Road Test’ location, time, & date are scheduled for the first available date. A permit must be validated, and all lessons completed 6 months prior to the student’s 17th birthday to be eligible to take a road test on his/her birthday (Or near the birthday happens to fall on a weekend or holiday). If a student fails to complete or waits past this six month mark the student must wait 6 months from the conclusion of the 6 hours.
